SALEM, Va. – The Bridgewater College men's track and field team completed the first day of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference indoor championships Saturday afternoon. The first day of the meet was held at the Kerr-Cregger Field House on the campus of Roanoke College.
The Eagles found great success in the opening day of the conference meet, boasting three podium finishers.
The most notable performance of the day came from junior Jesus Flores, who took home the individual championship in the men's weight throw. Flores threw 17.58 meters on his final throw, over a meter longer than the next finisher. Joe Flynn placed second, throwing 16.10 meters on his first throw.
Trey Birchett claimed bronze in the men's high jump. Birchett cleared the two-meter threshold on his second attempt. Birchett finished behind two Lynchburg jumpers: Jamarcus Brown, an All-American in the event last season, and Lamont Victoria, the current conference record holder.
Grayson Jacquez, Ben Baker, Gavin Diehl, and Malakai Wettig teamed up for a second-place finish in the men's 4000-meter distance medley relay.
Preliminary races were also held in the afternoon festivities. Jayden Davenport laid down a 6.95-second 60-meter dash, the second-best time in the prelims. Jayden Brown clocked 8.65 to claim the last spot in the finals in the men's 60-meter hurdles.
Bridgewater finished day one in second place with 41 points, trailing only Lynchburg. The Eagles are scheduled to open the final day of competition with the men's shot put at 12 p.m. The meet will be streamed live on FloCollege.
