FOREST, Va. - The Old Dominion Athletic Conference named Abby Mikolay the ODAC field athlete of the week, announced by the league's office Tuesday afternoon.
Mikolay re-wrote the conference and program record book last weekend at the Bast-Cregger Invitational. The Waynesboro, Va., native knocked down the women's shot put record after posting a 13.51-meter throw. Before the weekend, the previous shot put record was set in 1995, and it was the longest-standing record in the conference.
Since starting indoor competition at the beginning of the calendar year, BC has had a representation for the weekly award every week. Senior sprinter Jade Buckles received the honor as a track athlete in each of the last three weeks due to her performances in the women's 60-meter dash and 200-meter dash.
BC travels to Newport News, Va., to compete in the Vince Brown Invitational.
