NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The Bridgewater College men's track and field team spent their Sunday afternoon competing at the Vince Brown Invitational, hosted by Christopher Newport University.
The Eagles sent a limited squad to the one-day event, starting with three entries in the men's weight throw. Noah Keller was the top BC thrower in the event, throwing for a best 10.75 meters on his final attempt.
Jayden Brown ran the second-best time in the men's 60-meter dash preliminaries. Brown crossed the line at 8.91 seconds to qualify for the finals. Brown improved to an 8.63 second dash in the finals, placing third for the event.
Max Madsen placed second in the men's high jump. Madsen placed second after clearing the 1.78-meter, 1.83-meter, and 1.88-meter marks on his first attempts. Madsen was unable to clear 1.93-meters. In the men's triple jump, Madsen placed third after recording a best jump of 12.77 meters on his first attempt.
Bridgewater placed three entries into the men's 60-meter dash preliminaries. Jayden Davenport led the way with a 7.05 second dash, good for sixth. Gian Sirico clocked 7.34, and Gavyn Talbot crossed the line in 7.79 seconds. Davenport placed seventh in the finals, clocking 7.08.
The Eagles had their same three competitors in the men's weight throw compete in the men's shot put. Fiell Navarro led the way for the Eagles with a best 11.56-meter throw. Keller followed with an 11.50-meter throw on his second attempt. Gavin Strath recorded a best throw of 11.23 meters, also coming on his second throw. The BC trio finished 11th, 12th, and 13th, respectively.
BC ended their meet with entries in the men's 200-meter dash. Davenport placed fourth, completing the lap in 23.08 seconds.
Bridgewater competes in the Joe LaRocco Invitational in Salem, Va., on Saturday, Feb. 14. This will be the penultimate indoor meet for the Eagles before the ODAC championship.
