BRIDGEWATER, Va. - The Bridgewater College women's track and field team completed the first day of the Doc Jopson Track & Field Invitational Friday night.
Junior Abby Mikolay opened the meet for the Eagles with a win in the women's discus throw. Mikolay advanced to the finals with a 35.31-meter first throw. Mikolay mustered a 38.57-meter throw on her final attempt to jump from fourth to first. Senior Brianna Morgan also advanced to the finals. Morgan placed sixth with a best 29.85-meter throw.
The Eagles fielded Paige Hiserman and Shiloh Thompson in the women's 10-kilometer run. The tandem finished sixth and seventh, respectively. Hiserman led the way, registering a time of 44:50.47. Thompson crossed the line at the 45:36.15 mark.
Women's triple jump was scheduled to begin at 4 p.m, but it was cancelled due to inclement weather.
Bridgewater returns for day two of the invitational tomorrow beginning at 10:30 a.m. with the men's long jump and hammer throw. The first track event is scheduled to start at 11:40 a.m. At 12:45 p.m, the 1969, '70, and '71 cross country teams will be honored and inducted into the Bridgewater College Athletics Hall of Fame as a team of distinction.
