AMHERST, Va. - The Bridgewater College men's golf team opened play at the ODAC Championship tied for ninth at the Poplar Grove Golf Course Sunday.
The Eagles ended the first round with an off start to the conference tournament posting a first round score of +38 (326). Bridgewater is currently tied with Va. Wesleyan.
In the player leaderboard, Jayden Hendricks leads the Eagles with the lowest round score after day one with a +6 (78). Hendricks landed an eagle and a birdie to settle for a tie in 13th place.
Brandon Washburn rang in as the second Bridgewater scorer with a +9 and 28th place. Washburn faced double bogey on hole No. 4 and eight total bogeys after one round.
The next finisher was Walker Gillespie as he took 37th place with a +11. Gillespie had shaky encounters on No. 10 with a triple bogey and No. 14 with double bogey. He had seven holes with bogey.
Will Layton was the final scorer with a +12 and 40th among 50 golfers. Layton finished with two double bogeys and eight holes with bogey.
Jackson Buagher was the drop score for the Eagles as he closed day one in 44th place.
Washington and Lee currently holds sole possession of first place with a one-stroke lead over Lynchburg. Va. Wesleyan's Brayden Tritsch led the day with a one-under par and is a stroke ahead of the second-place finisher from Lynchburg, Cooper Mizelle.
The Eagles return for round two tomorrow, April 20 with a 10:50 a.m. tee time.
