Men's Golf Makes Strong Final Push at the ODAC Championship

AMHERST, Va. - The Bridgewater College men's golf team made a strong final push in the final round at the ODAC Championship, finishing in sixth and improving by 16 strokes as a team Tuesday.

The Eagles totaled a final score of 936 after three days of competition. The squad jumped three spots from the second round after starting out with a +38 first round score.

In the individual standings, Jayden Hendricks led the way for the Eagles finishing in 12th place for a three-day score of 232 (+16). He landed a +3 in the final round after suffering a pair of double bogeys. Hendricks made up for the blue numbers with a pair of birdies to settle for a 75.

Will Layton broke out after three days of action to finish as the second-best scorer for the Eagles, placing 19th among 50 golfers. Layton had the lowest score of the day, scoring an even par along with four birdies and four bogeys. He posted 233 (+17).

Brandon Washburn finished as the third scorer through 54 holes with a 236 (+20). In the final day of action, the senior carded a 75 (+3) with three birdies. He moved up three spots from the second round to take 25th.

Although Walker Gillespie was the drop score of the final round with a +4, he finished the tournament with a 28th place finish for a total of 237 (+21) and was Bridgewater's fourth scorer. To end the championship, Jackson Baugher closed out the day with a +3 to take 31st place. He had a 239 after three rounds.

"For as great of a season as we had it was disappointing to close out the year not playing how we wanted but that doesn't take away from the record breaking performances we've had throughout this year," said golf head coach Nick Schlickenrieder. "This is a young team and I'm hopeful the guys can use this year as a stepping stone for bigger and better things next year."

Guilford was crowned ODAC champions as they topped the leaderboard with a 19-stroke win margin over second place, Washington and Lee. Washington and Lee's Jonathan McEwen won the individual title with a three-day score of 219 (+3).
