BRIDGEWATER, Va. - The Bridgewater College baseball team has marked the fifth week with a top 10 ranking in all Division III national polls. The Eagles rank No. 9 in D3baseball.com, No. 8 in ABCA, and No. 8 in NPI.
This past week, the crimson and gold went 2-2 after falling to (RV) Mary Washington and Hampden-Sydney and then picking up a pair of wins in the second game of the doubleheader against Hampden-Sydney along with a win over Washington and Lee in a 13-3 victory.
As a team, the Eagles recorded 10 or more hits in each game last week. Zack Chadwell led the way with seven total RBIs, including five against Hampden-Sydney in game 2. The designated hitter sent out three home runs last week and surpassed the season-high RBIs program record with 65 RBIs.
On the mound, Evan Bert continued to dismantle the opposing offense after pitching eight complete innings on no runs, four hits, and six strikeouts in the win against Hampden-Sydney which decided the fourth seeding in the ODAC Tournament. The senior holds a team-high of 46 strikeouts.
The Eagles will host No. 5 seed Washington and Lee on Saturday, May 2 at 3 p.m. in game 1 of the best-of-3 series. The following game and third game, if necessary, will be played on Sunday, May 3 beginning at noon.
