VIDEO OF HULVEY'S INDUCTION

During his four years with the Bridgewater College football program, James Hulvey was recognized as one of the top linemen in the state.

Hulvey earned All Mason-Dixon Conference honors three times (1970-72). He was team co-captain as a senior when he was named the Outstanding Defensive Player in the Mason-Dixon Conference. Hulvey was an honorable mention all-state pick in 1971 and a first-team all-state selection in 1972.

Following his playing career, Hulvey worked as the head football coach at King and Queen County for one year before returning to Bridgewater as an assistant coach. He worked on Coach John Spencer’s staff from 1974-1982 and was an assistant on Bridgewater’s first ODAC championship team in 1980. While coaching at BC, Hulvey was also responsible for set-up and maintenance of all College athletic fields and courts for intercollegiate competition.

Hulvey left Bridgewater following the 1982 season and began a career in law enforcement in Augusta County, Va., where he reached the level of master deputy in the sheriff’s department. He earned the Academic Achievement Award for Basic Law Enforcement in 1986 and assisted with the development of the School Resource Officer Program in Augusta County Middle and High Schools from 1997-2006. Hulvey retired from the sheriff’s department in 2006.

In recognition of his outstanding playing career on the gridiron, James Hulvey is deserving of induction into the Bridgewater College Athletic Hall of Fame.
