Robert J. Stevens, Jr. was a four-year letterman in both football and basketball during his career at Bridgewater College.

Bobby excelled on the gridiron where he earned All-Conference honors and national recognition during his senior season.

He was captain of the 1973 football team and helped lead the team to a 5-4 record. He was MVP in the Mason-Dixon Conference and MVP runner-up in the Virginia Collegiate Athletic Association. Bobby was a first-team All-Conference selection at defensive back by both the Mason-Dixon Conference and the VCAA. He was a second-team pick at wide receiver by both conferences. Bobby led the team in interceptions with 12 and finished third in the nation in punt returns. He was an honorable mention Little All-American selection at defensive back.

Following graduation from Bridgewater College in 1974 with a degree in Health and Physical Education, Bobby embarked on a 30-year career in teaching and coaching. He coached basketball and football at the high school level and in 1987 he returned to Bridgewater as an assistant on Bill Leatherman's basketball staff. He coached eight seasons with Leatherman and the Eagles posted a 125-83 record. Bobby was an assistant on the Eagles' first-ever NCAA tournament team.

Bobby earned his Masters degree in 1992 from James Madison and in 1995 he accepted the job at Turner Ashby High School as Director of Athletics. During his nine years on the job, Turner Ashby teams won 48 district, 13 regional and five state championships. He served on numerous committees in the Valley District, Region II and Virginia High School League levels and helped host many regional and state events before retiring following the 2003-04 school year.

For his many accomplishments during his playing career at Bridgewater College and for his success as a teacher, coach and administrator, Robert J. Stevens, Jr. is deserving of induction into the Bridgewater College Athletics Hall of Fame.
