Box Score 2 BRIDGEWATER, Va. - Bridgewater College split its twinbill Saturday with Messiah, rallying for a 9-6 win in the first game before losing the second game 3-1.
In the opener, Bridgewater rallied from a 6-2 deficit with seven runs in the bottom of the ninth and won on Johnny Mason's 3-run walk-off homer, 9-6.
The Eagles pulled to within 6-4 when Brett Howell lined a double to the opposite field with the bases full to score two runs.
Jay Thompson then lined a single to center to drive in two runs and tie the score at 6-6. After Andrew Hacker walked, Mason belted his 3-run homer to right-center to end the contest.
The hit was the second walk-off game-winning hit of the season for Mason.
Freshman righthander Robert Gallet allowed just one unearned run in the final four innings to pick up the victory.
In the second game, Messiah's Travis Thome pitched a complete-game 3-hitter to shut down the Eagles, 3-1.
Bridgewater starter Joseph Lucas pitched well in the loss. Lucas allowed two runs on four hits in the first inning and then settled down to allow just one more run on four more hits in his next six innings of work.
The Eagles return to action tomorrow at home with a doubleheader with Elizabethtown. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
