Box Score 2 BRIDGEWATER, Va. - Bridgewater College ran its ODAC record to 11-2 Saturday with a doubleheader sweep over Emory & Henry College. The Eagles won the first game, 5-4 in 10 innings and then took the second game 7-4.
Emory & Henry scored one run in the third to take the lead, but the Eagles responded with a run in the fourth to tie the score when Jonathan Mason tripled and scored on a groundout by Jake Wade.
The Wasps regained the lead with a pair of runs in the top of the fifth to lead 3-1, but the Eagles answered with two runs in the sixth to tie the score again. With one out, Wade walked and Jay Thompson followed with a single. Andrew Hacker's single to right-center scored Wade and Thompson scored all the way from first when the centerfielder misplayed the ball, tying the score at 3-3.
Emory & Henry regained the lead in the top of the seventh on a run-scoring single by Erick Houff, but once again the Wasps were unable to hold the lead. In the bottom of the seventh, Devon Snow walked with one out and stole second. Snow scored on a single by Kevin Kirk to tie the score 4-4.
The Eagles scored the game-winner in the 10th. Bryan Sanderson led off with a single and moved to second on Kirk's sacrifice bunt. The Wasps intentionally walked Mason and Wade followed with a double to left-center to drive in the winning run.
Hacker led the offense with a 3-for-4 effort and Sanderson added two hits. Robert Gallet came out of the bullpen and pitched 3.1 innings of one-hit baseball to earn the victory on the mound.
Emory & Henry jumped out front in Game 2 with two runs in the first off BC starter Kevin Chandler. Houff doubled home one run and then scored on a single by Nick Windom for a quick 2-0 lead.
The Eagles tied the score with two in the second. Thompson walked and moved to third on a double by Alex Hogge. Zach Hynes plated both runners with a single through the box to tie the score at 2-2.
Hacker belted a solo homer in the third to give the Eagles the lead, but the Wasps came back with a run in the top of the fourth on a run-scoring double by Brandon Lucas, making the score 3-3.
In the bottom of the fourth, the Eagles scored twice to take a 5-3 lead. Brett Howell reached on an error and moved to third on Hogge's single. Howell scored on Sanderson's successful squeeze bunt, giving BC a 4-3 lead. After Kirk walked, Mason singled to right, scoring Hogge and putting the Eagles on top 5-3.
Emory & Henry threatened to take the lead in eighth when the Wasps pushed across one run and had the bases loaded when Chandler retired Josh McMillian on a grounder to second, keeping the Eagles on top 5-4.
Bridgewater added some insurance in the ninth. With one out, Kirk singled and Mason walked. With two outs, Hacker doubled down the right-field line, scoring both runners and giving the Eagles a 7-4 lead.
Wade came on in the bottom of the ninth and retired the Wasps to record his second save of the season.
Chandler battled through eight innings to pick up the victory, improving his record to 5-0 on the season. He allowed four runs, three earned, on 10 hits. He struck out nine and walked two.
Hacker was 2-for-3 with three RBIs and Hynes finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs.
The Eagles are now 17-12 overall. Emory & Henry is 3-18 overall and 2-8 in the ODAC.
