Box Score BRIDGEWATER, Va. – A pair of lefties silenced the Bridgewater College bats Sunday afternoon as Stevenson University defeated the Eagles, 4-1, in non-conference baseball action.
Michael Remeikis pitched seven shutout innings to pick up the victory for the Mustangs. He allowed six hits while striking out four and walking four. Trevor Fitzsimmons finished up, allowing one run on one hit.
The Mustangs jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first. Ian Eberly walked to start the inning and Matt Myers reached on an error. Both runners moved up on a long fly ball by Craig Joseph and both scored on a single by Kevin Kopas as the visitors moved out to a 2-0 lead.
Stevenson tacked on another run in the fourth when Billy Small led off with a walk and Nick Peifer followed with a run-scoring triple, making the score 3-0.
An unearned run in the seventh increased the Stevenson lead to 4-0. With one out, John D'Aquanno reached on an error and he moved to third on Eberly's double. Myers grounded single through the right side, scoring D'Aquanno with the Mustangs' fourth run.
Bridgewater avoided the shutout with a run in the bottom of the eighth. With one out, Cavin Clyde doubled and Justin Petock walked. Both runners moved up on a wild pitch and Clyde scored on Austin Batten's sacrifice fly, trimming the Mustangs' lead to 4-1.
Clyde led the offense as he had two of the Eagles' seven hits. Petock took the loss on the mound to even his record at 1-1. The senior righthander allowed three runs, two earned, on three hits in five innings on the mound.
Bridgewater left 11 runners on base and the Eagles hitters were 0-for-11 with runners in scoring position.
The Eagles, 6-1, return action Thursday afternoon when they travel to Christopher Newport for a 2:00 p.m. contest
