Box Score FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - Methodist University snapped a 3-3 tie with a run in the bottom of the seventh inning and then added three more in the eighth Sunday afternoon to defeat Bridgewater College, 7-3.
The Eagles led 2-0 after sscoring single runs in the first and second innings.
Garrison Wright led off the game with a single for the Eagles and then stole second base. Wright moved to third on a single by Kenner Berry and scored on a sacrifice fly by Chris King to put the Eagles on the board.
With two outs in the second, Luke Paczewski kept the inning alive with a single. Paczewski moved to second on a single by JT Creed and then raced home on a double by Wright for a 2-0 Bridgewater lead.
Methodist tied the game in the bottom of the second with two runs off Eagles starter Jordan Showalter. Kevin Williams walked to start the inning and scored on a triple by Lucas Scott. Scott scored on an infield grounder, tying the contest at 2-2.
Methodist took a 3-2 lead with a run in the fourth, but the Eagles answered with a run in the top of the sixth. With one out, Jacob Talley got the inning started with a single. Paczewski followed with a double and Talley scored on a throwing error on the play, tying the score at 3-3.
The Monarchs scored the go-ahead run in the seventh on a squeeze bunt and then added three insurance runs in the eighth to take the 7-3 victory.
King and Paczewski each had three hits to lead the offense while Wright, Talley and Creed added two hits each. Bridgewater finished with 15 hits but left 10 runners on base.
The Eagles, now 1-2, return to action next weekend with back-to-back doubleheaders. Bridgewater hosts Messiah on Saturday afternoon and then welcomes Juniata on Sunday afternoon.
