Box Score AUBURNDALE, Fla. - Thomas More scored six runs in the eighth inning Monday to defeat Bridgewater College, 10-5, in Spring Break baseball action.
Thomas More scored twice in the bottom of the first inning to take the lead and then the teams traded runs in the second.
Chris King singled to lead off the second and moved to third on a double by Jake Bailey. King scored on a groundout by Luke Paczewski to pull the Eagles to withing 2-1.
The Saints responded in the bottom of the second. Tanner Wolfe led off with a single and moved to thrid on a one-out double by Casey Metzger. Wolfe scored on a wild pitch for a 3-1 Thomas More lead.
The teams traded runs again in the fifth inning.
Andrew Berry led off the Eagles' fifth with a single, but was erased at second on Matthew LaPrade's groundout. LaPrade moved to second on Brandon Poole's groundout and scored on Austin Batten's single to cut the Saints' lead to 3-2.
Thomas More got the run back in the bottom half of the inning on Ben Laumann's solo homer, making the score 4-2.
The Eagles tied the score with two runs in the sixth. With one out, Bailey and Paczewski had back-to-back singles. Both runners moved up on a wild pitch and both scored on a double by JT Creed to tie the score at 4-4.
Bridgewater took its only lead of the game with a run in the top of the eighth. With one out, Bailey singled and Paczewski followed with a run-scoring double to put the Eagles on top 5-4.
The lead didn't last long as the Saints scored six times in the bottom of the eighth. Joshua Boeckmann delivered a big blow when he cleared the bases with a three-run double.
Bailey led the Eagles with a 3-for-4 day at the plate. Batten was 2-for-5 and Paczewski finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs.
