Box Score FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - Methodist scored seven runs in the first three innings Sunday afternoon and the Monarchs went on to defeat Bridgewater 12-3, handing the Eagles their first loss of the season.
Trailing 7-0, the Eagles got on the scoreboard in the top of fifth when Kevin Navedo doubled home a run.
Bridgewater scored its second run in the seventh on JT Creed's sacrifice fly and then added its final run in the top of the ninth. With one out in the ninth, Timothy Hopson reached base on an error and moved to third on a single by Isaiah Blanks. Hopson crossed the plate on a wild pitch.
The Eagles managed just six hits in the game. Navedo was 2-for-3 on the day and Matthew LaPrade also finished 2-for-3.
Bridgewater, now 2-1, will be busy this upcoming weekend with a doubleheader Saturday against Messiah and a twinbill Sunday with DeSales. Both doubleheaders will be hosted by the Eagles.
