LEXINGTON, Va. - The second round of the VSGA Intercollegiate saw a 15-degree drop in temperatures from Monday and intense winds, which led to average team scores that were ten strokes higher than the first round. Despite the tough conditions the Bridgewater College women's golf team held on to their 4th-place position, and finished with two individuals in the top-6.
Â
Sophia Martone started the day in second place, seeking a seventh career medal, and despite a slow start on Tuesday, she remained in the hunt most of the day. Starting on the back nine at Lexington Golf & Country Club, Martone bogied four of her first eight holes in the cool, blustery conditions, and briefly fell back on the leaderboard. She then responded with birdies on her ninth and eleventh holes and pulled back into second place. When she turned back into the wind on her fourteenth and fifteenth holes, she dropped three strokes, though, and ultimately settled for 3rd place, shooting 78. Concluding her final regular season, Martone finished top-3 in five of nine events, including three tournament wins.
Â
Hannah Rizzo had a similar experience today. After an opening-round score of 75, Rizzo was in the hunt as well. She similarly had five bogies on the front nine, and also dropped three strokes on her 14th and 15th holes. Without any birdies today, she came in with an 82 that dropped her to a solo 6th-place finish. The sophomore is riding an impressive season in 2024-2025, claiming four finishes in the top-6; including one win and a runner-up finish.
Â
The remaining Eagles had some trouble in the challenging conditions, and with 19 scores higher than bogey, their individual totals were all higher in the second round.
Evelyn Hunter shot 49 on her front nine, but made par on four of her final five holes to come back in with a 40 while fighting the wind. Scores of 86-89 gave her 29th among 44 players.
Â
Brooke Tyler had four pars early in the round, but missed some short putts along the way and had four larger numbers to end the day. She posted 94.
Emily Price completed a tough round in 99 strokes.
Â
The Eagles followed a better-than-average first round of 322 with a less exciting total of 343 today, but with high scores across the board, they held on to 4th place- the top spot among ODAC teams in the 4th annual VSGA tournament.Â
Â
The Eagles will tee it up again on Monday in the ODAC Championship at Wintergreen Resort.
