ROCKINGHAM, Va. - The Bridgewater College women's track and field team hosted their first home meet of the season Saturday morning. The Shane Stevens Winter Invitational was held with a condensed schedule due to the threat of inclement weather.
Summer Wallace opened the meet with a first-place finish in the women's long jump. Wallace recorded a 5.36-meter jump on her first attempt.
Abby Mikolay swept both throwing events, besting the field in shot put and weight throw. In shot put, Mikolay threw 12.66 meters on her second throw. Emma Bobbitt's opening 10.38-meter throw landed her in third. In weight throw, Bridgewater swept the podium with Brianna Morgan and Anna Dabaghyan placing second and third, respectively. Morgan threw 14.11 meters on her second throw, and Dabaghyan recorded a 12.92-meter throw on her final attempt.
Bridgewater had four runners place in the top five in the women's 60-meter dash. Reigning ODAC track athlete of the week Jade Buckles crossed the line in 7.85 seconds to claim the top spot. Arianna Jones ran in the same heat as Buckles, placing third with a time of 8.30. Jai Johnson also ran in the first heat, placing fifth with a time of 8.52. Kasi Showers crossed the line in 8.50, placing her first in her heat and fourth for the event.
Bridgewater had seven runners place in the top ten in the women's 200-meter dash. Buckles led the pack with a 25.61 sprint. Wallace placed second, crossing the line in just under 26 seconds. Jones ran a 26.94 and placed fourth. Megan Walter stopped the clock at 27.79, good for fifth.
Maddie Watson and Olivia Crigger finished one-two in the women's 60-meter hurdles. Watson edged out Crigger by a hair, crossing the line in 9.49 seconds compared to Crigger's 9.51. Malia Stewart placed fifth with a 10.93 sprint.
BC placed four entries into the women's 800-meter. Paige Hiserman led the pack with a 13th place finish.
Annah Wood was the top finisher for the Eagles in the women's mile. The freshman distance runner placed 12th, finishing the mile in 5:46.
The Eagles head to Salem, Va., on Friday, Jan. 30 to compete in the Bast-Cregger Invitational. The two-day meet will be hosted by Roanoke.
