Men's Track and Field Earns Eight All-Region Selections

NEW ORLEANS, La. - The United States Track & Field and Cross-Country Coaches Association released their 2026 all-region teams Wednesday. Bridgewater's men's track & field squad had eight representatives on the team stemming from five different events.

Grayson Jacquez, Ben Baker, Gavin Diehl, and Malakai Wettig were named to the all-region team for their performance in the 4000-meter distance medley relay. The quartet clocked 10:35 in the ODAC championships to claim silver. The freshman Jacquez led the relay with a 3:15.29 split in the 1200-meter portion of the relay. Baker followed with a 52.56 split in the 400. Diehl followed, clocking a two-minute 800-meter split. Wettig anchored the relay, stopping the clock with a 4:27.75 split.

Senior jumper Trey Birchett earned all-region honors in the men's high jump. Birchett cleared a best two meters at the ODAC championship meet. Birchett holds the fourth-best mark in the south region.

Junior thrower Jesus Flores earned the honor in both shot put and weight throw. Flores was crowned the ODAC champion in both events. In weight throw, Flores threw for 17.58 meters in the ODAC championship meet to best the field. Flores owns the second-best mark in the conference in shot put this season at 15.85 meters. Despite this, a 15.75-meter throw was enough to earn the Harrisonburg, Va. Native his second consecutive gold medal in the event.

Joe Flynn also earned all-region honors in the men's weight throw. The sophomore thrower placed second in the ODAC championships with a best throw of 16.10 meters.

Lastly, Walker Knicely earned all-region honors in pole vault. Knicely reset the program record for the event three times this season. Knicely cleared 4.65 meters at the Rockingham Collegiate Classic. Knicely placed third at the ODAC championship meet in the event. Knicely holds the fourth-best mark in the south region.

Bridgewater is scheduled to start their outdoor season at the W&L Track and Field Carnival on Friday, Mar. 20 at 10 a.m.
