NEW ORLEANS – The United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced Bridgewater College track & field assistant coach Joe Brunner as the men's south region assistant coach of the year Thursday evening.
Brunner led a throws group that played an instrumental role in the Eagles finishing third in the ODAC championship, as they were responsible for 46 of 90 BC points. Jesus Flores led the charge by claiming gold in the men's shot put and men's weight throw. Joe Flynn placed second in the men's weight throw, and McKinley Goodbar placed third in the men's shot put.
On the women's side, Brunner coached junior Abby Mikolay to her first NCAA championship appearance last week in the women's shot put. Mikolay was the first shot-putter to represent the Eagles at the big dance.
Brunner and the Eagles are set to start their outdoor campaign tomorrow at the W&L Track & Field Carnival.
