BRIDGEWATER, Va. - The Bridgewater College men's track and field team completed the first day of the Doc Jopson Track & Field Invitational Friday night.
The meet began with a handful of entries in the men's discus throw. Luke Williams, Joe Flynn, Nick Goleno, and Bryce Hoffman all placed in the top-10 for the event. Williams led the flock with a fourth-place finish, coming from a top throw of 40.31 meters. Flynn placed fifth with a best 39.69-meter throw. Goleno placed seventh, and Hoffman snagged the last spot in the top 10.
Trey Birchett was the lone entry for Bridgewater in the men's javelin. Birchett entered the meet with the third-best mark in the second heat. Birchett easily qualified for the finals and placed fourth with a 44.43-meter throw on his third attempt.
Ryder Rose was the lone Eagle to compete in the men's 3000-meter steeple. In a small field, Rose posted a time of 10:54.48.
The night ended with the men's 10-kilometer run. Gabriel Miller and Grayson Jacquez placed second and third, respectively. Miller clocked 33:21.20, and Jacquez crossed the line at the 33:34.99 mark. Brandon Adamson and Aiden Dumas also competed in the event for the Eagles.
The men's triple jump was scheduled for 2 p.m, but was cancelled due to inclement weather.
Bridgewater returns for day two of the invitational tomorrow beginning at 10:30 a.m. with the men's long jump and hammer throw. The first track event is scheduled to start at 11:40 a.m. At 12:45 p.m, the 1969, '70, and '71 cross country teams will be honored and inducted into the Bridgewater College Athletics Hall of Fame as a team of distinction. The entire meet will be streamed live on FloCollege.
