Eagles Host Doc Jopson Invitational

BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The Bridgewater College men's track and field team hosted the 28th annual Doc Jopson Invitational on Saturday.

The day started at Mapp Field with the discus throw where Peter Fulton grabbed first with a heave of 49.97 (163' 11") meter setting a season's best. Jake McNutt finished fifth with a mark of 40.80 (133' 10") meters and Ryan Duncan set a new personal best with a toss of 26.20m (85' 11"). Caleb Palacios also set a new personal best with a throw of 22.43m (73' 7").

In the long jump, Kyle Clanton secured a first-place finish with a mark of 6.77 (22' 2½") meters.

Conner Mackey notched a first-place finish in the men's high jump setting a new personal best with a height of 1.87 (6' 1½") meters, while Mason Lawhorne grabbed fifth with a mark of 1.77m (5' 9¾") in the event. Euan Spikers set his outdoor personal best in the high jump with a mark of 1.77m (5' 9¾") as well.

Spikers also set an outdoor personal best in the javelin throw tossing for a distance of 47.40 (155' 6") meters and finished in fourth. Right behind him was Aaron Moon with a mark of 43.14 (141' 6") meters.

Cy Alderman set a new outdoor personal best with a launch of 39.15 meters (128' 5") as did Trey Birchett with a throw of 39.01 meters (128' 0"). Palacios also set a new outdoor personal best with a mark of 36.71 meters (120' 5").

In the triple jump, Anthony Matthews reached the podium finishing third with a leap of 13.03 meters (42' 9").

Peter Fulton secured a first-place finish in the hammer throw tossing for a mark of 56.04 meters (183' 10"). Mike Smith claimed fourth with a heave of 51.30 meters (168' 3"). Tony Nesselrodt finished sixth tossing for a new personal best distance of 49.75 meters (163' 2").

Fulton grabbed second in the shot put with a heave of 14.48 meters (47' 6¼") setting his new outdoor personal best and placing himself seventh on the Eagles all-time list. Nesselrodt also set a personal best with a mark of 11.78 meters (38' 7¾").

Bryce Hoffman set an outdoor personal best with a mark of 10.05m (32' 11¾") as did Ryan Duncan with a mark of 9.35m (30' 8¼").

In the pole vault, Easton Repko grabbed second with an effort of 4.13m (13' 6½"). Aaron Moon set a new outdoor personal best with a mark of 3.53m (11' 7").

On the track, Anthony Cadle secured a second-place finish in the 10,000m run with a time of 33:16.16 setting a new personal best and placing himself seventh on the Eagles all-time list. Jacob Gregory finished fifth posting a time of 33:56.01.

Ryder Rose finished the 3000m steeplechase in sixth with a time of 10:51.31. Right behind in seventh was Caleb Bradley crossing the finish line in 11:01.30. Michael Toms grabbed eighth finishing with a time of 13:16.76.

In the 4x100m relay the squad of Clanton, Mackey, Moon and Michael Sheets secured a first-place finish posting a time of 42.05.

Bowen Varney finished the 1500m run posting a time of 4:10.24 while Jack Donovan finished the event with a time of 4:25.67.

In the 110m hurdles Moon notched a fourth-place finish running for a time of 15.95 seconds. Birchett finished sixth posting a time of 17.30 seconds followed by Brandon D'Amour in seventh with a time of 19.68 seconds.

Kaegan Avalos found the podium in the 400m run finishing third and posting a time of 50.26 seconds. Mackey set a new outdoor personal best running for a time of 51.49 seconds as did Alderman who posted a time of 51.90 seconds. Da'Shawn Wilson set his new outdoor personal best finishing with a time of 54.92 seconds.

Varney finished the 200m in seventh running for a time of 2:02.46.

D'Amour set a new outdoor personal best in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:06.42.

Sheets finished the 200m posting a time of 23.19 seconds while Saylor Schott finished with a time of 24.05 seconds and Wilson finished the event with a time of 24.13 seconds.

Clanton finished the 100m final second running for a time of 10.76 seconds. Clanton posted times of 10.84 seconds in the prelims and 10.75 seconds in the semifinals setting a new outdoor personal best and slotting himself fifth on the Eagles all time lists.

The Eagles will return to action March 31 as the travel to High Point, N.C. for the VertKlasse Meeting.
